just had Fios installed yesterday, have a Motorola 2500 standard def STB. I connected it to our stand-alone DVD recorder, and I cannot find anywhere in instruction manual or on screen menu any way to set the receiver to turn on at different times to record shows when I am not present. I can push the “record” button on the remote on a program I would like to record later, it just states a “reminder” was placed, but when time comes for the show to start, the receiver is having a sweet time not turning on. Is there a way to operate this STB to turn on by itself to allow for recording by a DVD recorder? I hope Verizon or Motorola did not do this purposely to force customers to rent a more expensive STB or DVR!!! thanks

The 2500 set top box is just a the standard tuner. There is no recording functionality. The record button on the remote is only compatible with the DVR set top boxes. If you want to record something to another device like a DVD recorder, you have to have the STB on and tuned to the correct channel at the time you want to record. There is no feature that allows the 2500 STB to turn on automatically.

The DVR STB's do cost more to lease, but they make automatic recording of shows much much easier.
