We subscribed to FIOS internet and phone service 6 months ago, and are very pleased with it. We currently have our TV service through Direct TV, but are considering switching to FIOS for TV service also. My understanding is that they run the connection to the TV through existing coax cable in the house, so that shouldn't be a problem. My concern is that we have always had problems with our channel controller...it is one of those sophisticated things that requires programming, etc., and occassionally doesn't work. We are pretty simple people, and would like a channel changer/controller that will simply work. What will be our experience with FIOS?

I think you are referring to the set top box. Are you saying that the DirecTV tuner/set top box was giving you issues? Verizon will provide their set top box, so that you are able to view all channels. This is a Motorola box. There are few different version depending on the services you want (HD, DVR, etc). The standard box is the Motorola QIP 2500. Once the technicians sets it up, you won't need to program anything, and it should not give you any trouble. With this box you'll be able to view the Channel Guide with detailed TV program information and you'll be able to access Video on Demand services. If you looking for the something even simpler, then I would suggest the Motorola DCT-700. With this box there is no guide or Video on Demand. You just change the channels like you would on a TV. Hope this helps.
