Our FiOS TV works fine. Our problem begins when we try to record a TV program on our VCR. Mind you, it does record the program, but when we start to play the recorded program, we see a few frames of the recorded program and then we don't see any disernible picture at all. The picture looks like one where might need a vertical hold to use the old technology jargon. Is it due to digital vs analog problem? Does it mean we can not use our VCR recorder to record a TV program? I looked thru the FiOS TV manual we were given when we installed the FiOS but there is no relevant info there and neither does our VCR manual. Help!

I recently had the same dilemma.. Only difference was I have a VHS/DVD burner combo unit....

You cannot use the VCR to tune channels as it has an analog tuner built in trying to process a digital signal over the coax out of the STB...All mine showed was a black screen...

The only way you'll be able to use your existing VCR unit is if it has an audio/video input option on the rear....

If so, your in luck.. just run a red/white audio composite cable out of the STB to the audio in jack on your VCR.... For video you'll use either a yellow composite cable or an S-Video cable...

The only drawback you'll have is that you'll only be able to record what is coming from the STB.. No more record one thing while watching another...

If your VCR has no inputs like I've mentioned, you might wanna consider upgrading to a DVD recorder.... going with a combo unit like I have.... and use your VCR as a video player in the meantime...

The key thing you need to look for is the audio/video IN option on your recording unit...

Hope this helped you.. as well as others who had the question.....

Feel free to follow up with what you decide to do...

I just had Fios hooked up, this is how I run my vcr

1. turn on tv
2. turn on vcr
3. On the original tv remote, push tv/video button
push until channel 3 and blue screen comes up.
You may have to program in your time and date,
I did.

4, On your vcr remote hit play. That is all it took on
mine to get it to play.

To record, all I do is get the channel I want and hit record.
I like to record Boston Legal, then I turn my light off and go
to sleep. lol

I have not yet tried my dvd player but I'm sure it will work fine.
