I want to connect one computer to my FIOS internet through a wired connection and 2 tivos and a blu-ray player wirelessly. My ActionTec router was accidentally thrown out by a former tenant. My internet is not working, but all tv features including VOD and the program guide are working. Verizon wants a $140 unreturned equipment fee to replace the router. Can I substitute some other type of router that is cheaper and may be more reliable? What specific alternatives would you recommend?

You'll likely find that you'll end up owing the equipment fee anyway, when you move or cancel the service, so perhaps it would be easiest to just get the replacement now.

You can purchase any type of router and the internet will still work. The connection must be ethernet.
