Perhaps you can answer this question as I tend to confuse every single FIOS rep that has been asked. My current Comcast service HD DVR (Motorola DCT 3412 I) has dual tuner functionality which allows me to watch one show on tuner 1, pause it, go to tuner 2 and watch (or more precisely 'catch up to live TV'), pause tuner 2, go back to tuner 1 and 'catch up' and so forth. Yes, that sounds rather convoluted, but it works for me when watching two shows at once (think football) and allows us to skip commercials in both. I know I could watch one and record the other, but the other scores scroll across the screen would ruin the outcome. Likewise, I would be forced to watch the commercials in real time as opposed to my switch back and forth approach. Can Verizon do this? I'd love to dump Comcast but this functionality is a deal-breaker for me. Thanks

I know the feature that you are talking about and agree with you totally. I had this feature with Dish Network. Unfortunately, most providers don't have it at the top of their feature to do list, so it is not very common.
I can tell you with Verizon FiOS, that you can swap channels by using the swap button, and both channels will have a recording buffer that allows you to rewind. However when you swap it returns to live, so this is not ideal for sports. The only option press the record button to put the shows in your recording list and then you can 'play from start' or 'resume play'.

It looks like with the newest software update there have been some changes to this capability. You can now pause and swap between two channels. When you swap back to the paused channel, there is a brief flash of the live view (not good for sports games), but then it goes back to where the channel was paused. This is almost perfected now except for the brief flash of live.
