Ive got two 42″ Panasonic TV’s - one is an LCD flatscreen (Digital/HD ready), while the other is a DLP Digital/HD ready flatscreen. I want to receive FIOS in HD on only one set (the LCD), while I do not care to have HD capability on the DLP. Will I still get a good quality digital signal if I use the standard set top box with the DLP? Or do I have to use an HD box with the set ? I worry that the standard set just wont provide a decent picture, despite the DLP TV having the capability to display a great picture with the appropriate hook up. I can save a bit of money by ordering only 1 HD set top and 1 std set top box, but at what expense in picture quality?

I watch may SD channels on my DLP TV, and I must say the SD picture quality is the best I've experienced (I've had Comcast and Dish Network). Granted is no where near HD quality, but it is definitely acceptable. The cost difference is $4/month more for the HD box.

Right now the biggest downside of SD on a large DLP is the screen ratio. The SD box won't provide 16:9 aspect ratio, so unless you use zoom on the TV, which worsens the picture, the will always be black bars on the sides. Also, in the future there will be many more HD channels, which means more to miss out on with just a SD box.
