I have Verizon Fios internet in my neighborhood and this internet connection is horrible. I am never able to connect on the internet and when I do my latency for online gaming is over 6k which is way more than it should be. Whenever it hits 3pm-7pm I am never able to connect since all my neighbors are on at the same time so I have to wait until everyone gets off to actually get anything done online. I call customer service and they state that if you have wireless your not able to exceed 10 feet from the router to get a connection which is ridiculous because if you have wireless you should be able to go more than 10 feet from the main computer. I have boughten 3 different wireless adapters for my computer which is an XPS Dell, the strength is very high but since the internet connection sucks so bad it wouldn’t matter if i bought a $300 wireless adapter. There is never any signal and the connection drops at least 10x every hour. THIS INTERNET SUCKS.

The only way to know if the local wireless connection is your problem is to see if you have the same problems while connected via an actual ethernet cable. If your problem goes away, I would recommend looking into upgrading the firmware on your wireless router, since older versions of the Actiontec router had some bugs.

If the problem still exists, one possibility is an overloaded DNS server. While the fiber optic connection will provide a very fast internet connection that will not degrade during peak times, an overloaded DNS server will cause your internet to seem slow. Everytime you query a website, by default, your computer will ask Verizon's DNS servers for the ip address of the website you're looking up. It may be the asking that's slowing down your internet. I've seen cases where these DNS servers get overloaded due to fast growth. You can use a third party DNS service like Open DNS which works great: http://www.opendns.com/ See if that speeds up your internet surfing.

To confirm your bandwidth speed is as fast as it supposed to be, do an online speed test.
