I need URGENT advice. I had FIOS TV, internet and phone bundle installed in December 2007 (I still have not received my free TV). I had a 56" HDTV Mitsubishi Diamond, 2001. About a month after I had the Fios installed, the family room where the TV is located started to have nauseating smell of melting electronics. I had to turn off the TV and open the windows. The smell was very strong and made me dizzy. I thought the TV was old and caused the problem, so I replaced it with a new flat screen LCD HD TV. To my complete desperation, the smell continues to appear 10-15 minutes after I turn the TV on.....I called Verizon tech support and they were very rude, and refused to send a technician just because there is some bad smell in my living room. When I asked for a supervisor I was put on hold for a long time, then I was advised that a supervisor will call me back in a few hours. That was 6 days ago....

What in the world can cause this sickening melting electronic smell? I like the Fios "bundle", but what good does it o if I can not turn on the TV? I am concerned for my health and for the safety of the house. Could it be a fire hazard?

I am at the point of calling Verizon again, paying the early cancellation fee and tell them to get their fiber optics cables and equipment out of my house! I already gave away a perfectly good TV because of the Verizon FIOS installation....

If you can confirm that the smell is coming from a FiOS set top box (smell it up close), then just call tech support and tell them the box is dead (won't turn on). They'll probably run you through the troubleshooting steps: unplug unit, wait 30 secs, etc. Just tell them you did all that and the box will still not turn on. They'll send out a tech to replace it, or ship you a replacement. Even if it works when the tech arrives, tell him it wasn't working and you still want it replaced.
